SEO101
Recently I got the opportunity to interact with a number of entrepreneurs and business people. One of my interests was to see as to what kind of business results they were getting out of their Internet Marketing strategies.
First of all it was encouraging to see that businesses of all types and sizes were pursuing an aggressive Internet Marketing strategy. Not only that, I also found that Search Engine Optimization, or SEO as we normally call it, was an active component of that strategy. However, I found very little correlation between improvement in business results and the use of SEO.
Surprising and disappointing as it may seem, I was not at all surprised by this observation.
Many a times SEO is being promoted as a panacea, a cure-all if you will, for the success of a company’s website. Focus of many SEOs is just to get more traffic to your website. In fact, many SEO service-providers ‘promise’ to bring your company’s website on the first page of Google (did I mention, ‘for a very brief period of time’).
Though SEO is important, it is even more important to understand that it is not about SEO – it is about improving your business results. And businesses really need to see SEO as part of a growing repertoire of Internet Marketing tools which, when used effectively, can measurably improve business results.

Focus of most SEOs is usually on getting more traffic to your website, which is easy - just as getting your site on the first page of Google for a brief period is. It is getting most relevant visitors -the ones who actually are looking for what you are selling– that requires bit more then directory submission, article submission and link building.
When it comes to increasing revenue of your eCommerce site or online store, it is quality and not the quantity that matters. Getting more traffic or getting on the first page of Google using less competitive keywords do not add much value. It is getting the most relevant visitor to your website that makes all the difference.

SharePointTalk
SharePoint is an offering from Microsoft which provides the user with a comprehensive platform that enables sharing of information, forms and documents. What it seeks to do is allow the user to create multiple central points (Portals), from where information can be accessed, aggregated, analyzed, and shared. These Portals are scalable collaborative workspaces with content management, search, document management and workflow automation capabilities.

A single collaborative platform can be used across entire organization to cater to the needs of the information worker, and to improve collaboration and communication within and across teams and departments. Delegation of work, creation of tasks, approvals and alerts have never been so easy. Using a combination of Windows SharePoint Server Technology and Microsoft Office, day to day tasks of information worker in any organization can be geared towards reducing operational cost and improving quality of deliverables.
